The Garden of Eatin’Newsletter
June
25, 2010
It’s a Newsletter!
And it is remarkably unprofessional, but
functional. If you love to write newsletters, want to attend the irregular
meetings of the garden board, and have a sense of humor, consider yourself invited
to become the editor of this one. Call Suzanne at 839.1560 and the job will be
yours.
Classes, classes, classes
If you would like to take a canning class
or a class in making jams and jellies, or some other gardening related topic,
please let us know. Next to the box that holds this newsletter is another box
with a form to complete. After you complete the form, return it to that box.
We’ll keep you posted on the times, interests, etc.
Some Acknowledgements
Funding for the Garden of Eatin’ came from
the Humboldt Area Foundation ($9860), First Five Humboldt ($1900), and Thrivent
Financial ($1000). If you know any of the board members of these groups, thank
them for us.
Catalyst Church and Calvary Lutheran Church
members, as well as some good-natured people from the community, provided the
muscles to build the raised beds, fill the beds with dirt, and spread the mulch
for the pathways. Catalyst members also assembled the garden shed, which looks
quite nice.
The Padlocks on the Gates
It is with
great regret that Suzanne admits that she selected the horribly difficult
padlocks on the gates. She would like to suggest that the contortions required
to open the padlocks are designed to substitute for warming up before beginning
the rigors of gardening, but she knows that concept will be rejected out of
hand. For that reason, she simply, humbly apologizes for any body aches or
pains caused by trying to open the padlocks.
Items for the next newsletter
No one can
forecast when the next newsletter will be assembled, but if you have an item
for it, that could prompt the publication of the next edition. Please send your
item to suzodea@mac.com or put it in the other box.
