My e-mail address: CALVARYLC@Yahoo.com

Call me Pastor Dave, because that’s who I am now. Until age 39 I was pretty messed up. I was: drunk, high, lost, confused, searching, stuck in a dead-end job, divorced, bankrupt, promiscuous, a liar, a cheat, a heavy smoker, and selfish. I fed my wife and child with food stamps and federal surplus peanut butter. The only job I could get was selling used RV’s.

But God chased me down and gave me the grand prize! That is, to know Jesus Christ, to trust him, to follow him, and to love him. That’s the prize -- NOT knowing the Truth that’s “out there,” NOT having it all figured out, NOT choosing “the right religion,” NOT being good or perfect. No, the Truth is a person, not a cold fact.

You don’t get to know Jesus all at once; it takes a while. But you can get a glimpse of the beauty of God by looking at Jesus, and that will be intriguing enough to draw you in and propel you on. My happy job (now) is to help people get that fabulous glimpse of God in the person of Jesus Christ. It changes lives! It changed mine!

Here’s my offer to you, just for checking out my pastor’s page: Though it is worth everything to me, I will give you my story of faith for free! Just ask me. And wait, that’s not all! I’ll also give you my time, my attention, my listening ear, my compassion, and my community of believers who will love you and support you in prayer. No four easy payments, just free, like God’s love.

You probably know a Lutheran already. We are the stealth Christians in your community. We feel that we should shut up and serve. We are reluctant to act like we have all the answers, because we don’t. We honor other faiths and other churches. We use our actions more than our words. We don’t say you have to be one of us to have it right. We’re kind of coming out of our silence now; we even have this web site.

The young woman who so beautifully built this web site has been a Christian for about a year and a half, and she has a wonderful story of discovering God’s love for her and how it changed everything. We’re sticking with her while her life changes go on and on. We’ll be there all her life, wherever she goes, because the Church is world-wide! She’ll always be at home now.

Need a home for your spirit? Even for a little while? You’re welcome to the home of God, whether it’s at Calvary Lutheran or another congregation of believers in Jesus Christ. We give Holy Baptism and Holy Communion and a Bible to people who come here, if you ask. And I will be glad to meet with you personally, online or by phone, here or there. My job is my pleasure, now that I work for the Son of God.

Please accept this cyber-prayer for you, dear child of God: O God, the only perfect Father, I pray for your Holy Spirit to be gentle with this child of yours in your most reassuring way of love. Calm her/his heart and mind with your peaceful presence. Carry on your work in ____ that brought him/her to this moment in eternity. I know that You want to be reunited with ____ . Let your healing begin now, in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
